Republican Women to meet May 28

DEWITT — The Clinton County Republican Women met April 23 at the Frances Banta Waggoner Library in DeWitt. President Sue Dikeman called the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was said by all. The invocation was given by Sue Dikeman. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Bev Lundt.

A boxed lunch was enjoyed by the group while it welcomed speaker Jillian Aschliman, director of the Frances Banta Waggoner Library. Aschliman told the group what libraries do for the community, how a library comes into being and what librarians do. Members also learned about all the services the library offers to patrons and the spaces the library offers for users of all ages.

Aschliman gave updates on the $5.7 million expansion and renovation project under way. On Aug. 7, the city of DeWitt held a special election and passed a $3.5 million bond referendum with an 82% favorable vote for the project. Also, private donations and grants of more than $2 million and $20,000 from the Clinton County Board of Supervisors will help fund this project.

Bev Lundt won the door prize. The “Care For America” project was a monetary donation to the Referral Center, DeWitt.

The next meeting of the CCRW will begin at 9 a.m. May 28 at Jenny’s Diner in Clinton. The group will honor veterans and write notes of thanks for their service.
