Truck damages historic Van Allen Building

An awning on the east side of the Van Allen Building in downtown Clinton is partially separated from the building after being struck by a dump truck Monday. Police were called the the Van Allen Building at 200 Fifth Avenue South at about 5:15 p.m. Monday. Bret Margeson, 38, told police that he pulled his dump truck over on the west side of South Second Street to check his air brakes and struck the awning connected to the East side of the Van Allen Building, pulling the awning from the building. Damage to the building was estimated at more than $1,000. The dump truck sustained minor damage, police said. No charges were filed.
