CLINTON – One person was transported by helicopter to Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport and another was taken by ambulance to MercyOne Clinton after their car collided with a Clinton County road grader at the intersection of U.S. Highway 67 and 180th Street north of Clinton Monday morning.

The driver of a Honda Acura with Illinois plates was northbound on U.S. 67 behind a Clinton County road grader, Clinton County Sheriff Richard Lincoln said at the scene. The driver of the Honda tried to pass the road grader as grader turned left onto 180th Street, and the vehicles collided, Lincoln said.

Hydraulic rescue tools were used to extract the passengers in the car, Lincoln said.

Because the accident involved a Clinton County vehicle, the county will turn the investigation over to the Iowa State Patrol to avoid any appearance of impropriety, Lincoln said.

Clinton and Andover fire departments assisted.
