Remember when the Philadelphia Eagles were a hot-ticket item for Super Bowl 53? That's long gone by now.
The NFL regular season has once again shown that teams will take a step back, while others will move forward from year-to-year. About the only thing you can count on is that New England will regularly be in the conversation for the Super Bowl.
Sportsbettingdime presents a few options when it comes to predicting the next Super Bowl champion. Do you want chalk with New Orleans at +300? Or are there teams off the radar that would present the best bets?
Here's my three favorite value picks to win the Super Bowl, with a long-shot in the mix.
Los Angeles Chargers +1000
This is my favorite value pick for the Super Bowl. Obviously, the Saints are probably the best shot, but how can you go wrong with this price?
The Chargers rank 11th in yards per play allowed and second in yards per play on offense. Only Pittsburgh can boast similar totals. Philip Rivers finally has an offensive line that is capable of protecting him on a regular basis and the defense is good enough to make stops.
Los Angeles has some lapses on the defensive side of the ball, but week 15 was a perfect illustration of what they can do when counted on to make a play. Los Angeles needed a stop late in the game and it happened. The Chiefs showed they can't do that and I'm not sure if the Los Angeles Rams will be able to do that.
The Chargers have one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the NFL and they're offering fantastic value at this number.
Dallas Cowboys +1900
I really liked the Cowboys in the preseason, so I'm happy to see Dallas make a move this year.
Dak Prescott isn't the greatest quarterback in the NFL, but he can do enough to win games. And that defensive line is good enough to keep the Cowboys in games and win games at the end of regulation.
Teams that can play defense and run the ball are still nice teams to back in the playoffs, so that's why I'm not giving up on the Cowboys. The Rams are vulnerable with a defense unable to stop anybody, and Dallas has shown it can compete with the Saints.
New Orleans should be the heavy favorite in the NFC, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Cowboys escaped the NFC.
Baltimore Ravens +4800
The Ravens are a team that can get hot. They showed that in their most recent Super Bowl victory, when they trotted out a bad offense to accompany the NFL's best defense.
That year got Joe Flacco a nice pay day, so I'm not doubting it can happen again, albeit with Lamar Jackson at the helm. The Ravens are showing the ability to run the football and can stop any offense, as evidenced from the week 14 matchup with Kansas City.
When the weather gets cold, defense is necessary to have. I don't trust the Chiefs, especially in January against a team like Baltimore. The Ravens are trending in the right direction and have enough components on both sides of the ball to get hot at the right time.
