BETTENDORF – Despite finishing the day in a three-way tie for the tournament's best record, the Clinton High School volleyball team finished outside of the top-two at the end of play Saturday.

But the River Queens still turned in an impressive performance at the Bettendorf Invite, winning five of six contests, including a three-set win over Class 5A No. 6-ranked Ankeny in their opening match.

Clinton's only loss came to Iowa City High, who also rank among the top-10 in the lone class above the River Queens. The Little Hawks edged out the victory 19-21, 21-12, 15-13.

Ankeny was crowned tournament champion, and Iowa City High took runner-up honors. Clinton was reverted to third place as a result of their overall win-loss game record – the event's second tiebreaker scenario.

River Queens seniors Grace Tubbs and Macy Mulholland led the team in kills throughout six matches, recording 42 kills and 30, respectively. Brooke Mulholland had 115 total assists.

Clinton returns to action with a trip to Davenport North High School Thursday night.
