CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Morrison boys' track team is sending five to the finals on Saturday, including a couple of the top qualifying times.
The Mustangs are going in with the best 4x400 relay (Hunter Newman, Koby Brackemeyer, Nathan Mickley and Keegan Anderson) time in Class 1A, running a 3:24.07 to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
They will be the last event of the meet on Saturday, the starting gun going off at 4:20 p.m.
Four other events are guaranteed themselves a trip to the finals after their performances on Thursday.
The 4x800 relay won it's heat by two full seconds, clocking in at 8:19.13. They will run Saturday, going in with the 11th best time as it stands. The group gives it a go at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the first event for Morrison of the day.
Two athletes will be running in the 800-meter run finals on Saturday. Freshman Hunter Newman is heading into the finals with the fourth best time in the state after running a 1:58.33 to qualify. Koby Brackemeyer will be joining him in the field, clocking in at 1:58.76 to make the cut. The duo will compete at 1:55 p.m. Saturday.
Junior Keegan Anderson is set to impress in the 400-meter dash finals. He ran a 48.73 to qualify with the second best time in Class 1A. He will run just before 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The 4x200 just missed the cutoff for the finals. The quarter of Nick Allen, Nathan Mickley, Alex Anderson and Justice Brainerd finished in 1:32.58, with the last qualifying time set at 1:32.58.
