CLINTON – School board candidate Brianna Varner announced Tuesday that she will cease campaigning.
“Due to unanticipated personal circumstances and with deep regrets, I’ve chosen to immediately suspend my efforts in campaigning for the Clinton Community School District School Board,” Varner wrote.
“I’m honored by the remarkable support from the community over the past several weeks and extend a heartfelt thank you to all of my supporters. This was a difficult decision to make as I am very passionate about education and our community but my immediate focus is needed elsewhere,” Varner said.
“I appreciate the respect and privacy you’ll allow my family and I during this time. “
Because the formal withdrawal date has passed, Varner’s name will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot, said Clinton County Auditor Eric Van Lancker. If she is elected, she can decline the position.
“That will create a vacancy,” Van Lancker said. The school board would have 30 days to name a replacement. “They would follow their regular vacancy rules,” Van Lancker said.
Incumbents Jenny Green, Michael House and Mike Pelham remain in the race for their current school board positions.
